Perforated steel sheet has a pattern of holes, slots or other decorative shapes which can be created by mechanical punching, laser cutting or some similar method. Since perforated sheet finds application where aesthetic appeal is important, the starting material is often cold-rolled or cold-rolled and galvanised. Architecturally, perforated sheet is used because of its sound-abatement characteristics but there are also applications in industrial environments whenever liquids or gases require separation or purification. Automotive applications include filters and silencers.
